44th Annual Field Meet

Meet program

Welcome from Melody Lyons, Meet Chair

The Texas Hawking Association proudly welcomes you to the 44th Annual THA Field Meet. If you need anything during the meet, please reach out to any of the contacts listed in this program.  Any of our officers or volunteers will be happy to assist you.

THA asks that all attendees be considerate of the cleanliness and care of your hotel rooms and common areas during your stay.  Please clean up after ALL falcons, hawks, dogs, husbands, wives, children, relatives, etc. Members will be held financially responsible for any extra cleaning cost or damage to rooms. Your assistance will help ensure that we are welcomed back with the reasonable room rates we count on and enjoy. This is one of the most effective ways we can control our out-of-pocket expenses while we have a great time at the meet. Please also be considerate of the noise levels in common areas.  The meeting room is left open for gathering each night after all organized activities.  Please use this room in lieu of the hallways, atrium, and reception areas.

We will not have a formal weathering yard.  Since we’ve moved our meet to the panhandle, we have had low use of the weathering yard as people are out hawking or it’s too windy to weather birds.  The meet hotel has some space to weather your birds if you choose, but please supervise them for their safety.
If this is your first field meet, it can seem overwhelming.  I encourage you to introduce yourself to as many falconers as possible, offer to tag along on hunts, and learn how to be a good steward of the sport.  Take the time to sit and listen to recounts of field meets past and learn the history of Texas falconry.  Field meets are not just for hunting but for reconnecting with friends and making new ones. I hope each of you enjoys this family reunion as much as I enjoy planning it.  Happy hawking!

Where to Hunt
Texas landowners are usually happy to share their land with falconers, especially if you make it clear that you won’t run their cattle, break their fences, leave trash, or ever come there without their permission. We know that you are anxious to start hawking, so we have made it easier by getting permission for our members in the area. Enjoy, but be courteous and they will welcome you and other falconers back next year.  If you need help finding a hunting spot, please contact THA President, Kyle Irlbeck at 806 443-4030 or Melody Lyons at 214 538-7400.

THA has provided interactive google maps for hunting locations that may be accessed using your smartphone or internet. Please use the QR code available at registration to access the map.

There is a spot designated for apprentice falconers that have yet to take game with their new bird.  We ask that seasoned falconers allow them priority access to this field.
